One
of J. Tucci Construction Corporation's most notable success
stories, the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship
store renovation, required skillful navigation through
a myriad of challenges. The 80-year-old building had to be
completely rebuilt while the store continued daily operations.
Timing was crucial to
the successof this project. J. Tucci worked closely with the
architects, engineers and the Saks operations team to coordinate
the sequence of construction, supply deliveries, clean-up
and merchandise transfers. The organization, efficacy and
on-time execution of each phase belied the host of structural
challenges and logistical hurdles met by the team throughout
the process.
Short-term
Protection
With the Saks renovation, safetyand uninterrupted retail sales
were a top priority. The leadership of J. Tucci Construction
Corporation implemented all of the necessary risk management
protocols to maintain secure construction sites. The
construction team worked discreetly, keeping sites hidden
from view, and throughout the process, coordinated their efforts
with the Saks team to guarantee that day-to-day operations
ran smoothly.
Long-Term
Asset Coverageand Managing Risks
Designated by the City of New York as a landmark building,
the historic facade of Saks had to remain intact, including
each original brick. When the project necessitated the creation
of a passageway through the 10th floor facade of the building,
meticulous planning and execution ensured the preservation
and restoration of every brick.
Navigating the tight
space between buildings and moving materials safely through
the 10th floor passageway was a treacherous and risky proposition.
But the team safely guided materials and equipment through
the opening, in some instances with only inches of leeway
to spare. Precise and conscientious preparation maximized
utility while minimizing structural impact onthe historic
facade.
Clearing the passageway
presented only one of many logistical challenges that the
J. Tucci Construction Corporation management team successfully
maneuvered during the Saks renovation.
